As schools prepare for the 2026 compliance cycle, it is a useful time to review policy ownership, internal review schedules and key governance responsibilities.
This update is intended for AISSA member school leaders, school administrators and staff involved in policy, compliance, governance and operational planning.
Schools may wish to review their current processes across several areas, including:
A clear ownership model helps ensure policies are reviewed consistently and that responsibilities do not sit with one person informally.
Depending on the policy area, ownership may sit with the principal, business manager, school administrator, policy and compliance staff, or board representatives. Schools may also wish to document who is responsible for drafting, reviewing, approving and communicating each policy.
A practical first step is to identify which policies are due for review in the next six to twelve months. From there, schools can prioritise policies linked to compliance, governance, student wellbeing and operational risk.
Schools may also find it helpful to align policy review timelines with board meeting schedules, leadership planning cycles and relevant reporting dates.
Relevant templates, checklists and supporting resources may be available through the AISSA Resource Centre. Logged-in portal users will only see resources that match their organisation type, role and access level.
Further updates will be published through News & Updates as additional guidance becomes available.
