Independent schools, one voice
AISSA represents Independent schools across South Australia — advocacy, professional learning and services that help school leaders and teachers do their best work.
Term 3 professional learning is now open for registration
See the calendarMembership is open to Independent schools operating in South Australia. Most members are standalone schools, though a number of small systems and single-campus schools within a larger association also hold membership in their own right.
Applications are reviewed by the Board and take into account the school's registration status with the SA Department for Education and its standing with the relevant regulatory bodies.
Membership covers advocacy and representation to government, industrial relations advice, a full calendar of professional learning for teaching and non-teaching staff, and access to the member portal for policy templates, compliance guidance and event bookings.
Larger member benefits — enterprise bargaining support, WHS advice, and the school finder and MP finder tools — are bundled in rather than charged separately.
The PD calendar is built from a needs survey circulated to member schools each term, supplemented by legislative or curriculum changes that require sector-wide briefing. Sessions run both in person and online, and most carry a certificate for teachers' registration records.
Member schools can also request a tailored in-school session for whole-staff PD days, subject to facilitator availability.
Member schools have access to a dedicated IR and compliance advisory line during business hours. Requests are usually triaged within one business day, and complex matters are escalated to AISSA's external legal panel where needed.
The member portal also holds a library of current award summaries, template policies and compliance checklists that cover most day-to-day questions without needing to call.

Three ways AISSA supports member schools
Represent
We speak for Independent schools to government and regulators, so individual schools are not making the same case alone.
Advise
IR, compliance and WHS advice on call, backed by a library of current template policies in the member portal.
Develop
A full term-by-term professional learning calendar for teaching and non-teaching staff alike.
About AISSA
The peak body for Independent schools in South Australia
AISSA represents the state's Independent schools — from small specialist campuses to large K-12 colleges — on funding, regulation, industrial relations and professional standards. We exist so schools can focus on teaching, while the sector-wide advocacy and compliance work is handled centrally.
Membership gives school leaders a direct line to sector advice, a full professional learning calendar, and a portal of resources built specifically for the SA Independent schooling context.
AISSA does the sector-wide advocacy so our school can put that time straight back into students. That's the whole value of membership.
The PD calendar meant we didn't have to build our own program for new staff induction from scratch. It's ready to go every term.
Having a compliance library in the portal saves us reinventing policy documents every time the regulations shift.
